Airstream Reno 1.0

When we purchased our Tradewind it was mostly all original and appeared to be in very good condition…We had plans to spruce up the interior a little before our trip.  What we discovered and later learned is VERY common, is that due to the normal “wear and tear” there were many places where tiny leaks in the seams of the shell and around windows etc resulted in areas of completely rotten subfloor and a rusted frame (this is almost always the case in vintage trailers, but can even occur in fairly new models as well).  We wanted to be sure that our trailer was in tip top shape for our journey, and that left us with the only option of repairing and replacing everything from the frame up.  We are so happy we did this, as the trailer is even better than when it was brand new!  Here’s a photo journal of this process:

  1. Hello Airstreamer,
I just viewed your redo of the unit. Could you tell me the full weight for towing purposes? My truck can tow up to 9,000 lbs.

    Thank You,

  2. Beautiful job. I plan to take an airstream cross country to various state parks etc. because I design and produce for cultural organizations gift shops and think it would be both fun and a great way to meet my customers one on one. So…..I will be going it alone, a senior citizen raised on a farm in Oregon I can do it with a very secure trailer. I will need a working place for my computer and TV screen to do my design work, if your Airstream fits my needs can one bunk be revised into a work station with all connections/outles for computer, TV screen (mounted) etc., and could you make the adjustments? I will also need a microwave/convection seated over the re-fridge.

Please send photos of the shower with shower head. I live in Westport CT, were are you located?

Feel great after viewing your restoration, a lot of love went into creating a wonderful adventure home for your family. It is appreciated, great care would be taken to maintain the trailer.

    1. Thank you!! Our camper has recently been sold to a lovely couple who will be living in it in Oregon soon. We are restoring another for ourselves and have begun restorations for others customized to their needs. Let me know if you would be interested in discussing a project for you. We would love to help you in this adventure!!
